Area Information

Water Street runs parallel to the East River in Manhattan. It is a street broken into several pieces and it doesn’t connect from one end to the other. At the far east end, one end of the street terminates at Montgomery Street, and the other end terminates at Jackson Street, right at Corlears Hook Park. In this section the street is home to Gouverneur Hospital and Vladeck Houses which are public housing developments, built and maintained by the New York City Housing Authority. At the far west end you will find the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This memorial includes a wall made of glass blocks, which were etched with the excerpts of diary entries, letters, and poems written by Americans during the Vietnam Era. The Walk of Honor is also nearby, this 125-foot-long, 10-foot wide path begins with a stainless-steel map of Vietnam and guides visitors past pylons bearing the names of the 1,741 New Yorkers who lost their lives during the Vietnam War. Next to the memorial is the largest office complex in New York, known as 55 Waters. This building features the impressive Elevated Acre. Forty feet in the air, this venue offers a Brazilian Hardwood Boardwalk, an outdoor lawn and garden, a seven-tiered amphitheater surrounding the lawn, and an illuminated, rectangular glass beacon all overlooking the East River. Due to its scenic appeal, the Elevated Acre hosts many public and private events.

Business Information

The city’s largest office structure is at 55 Water Street. At 54 stories and 3.8 million square feet, 55 Water Street is situated on 3.7 acres and boasts multiple open spaces. The building is the headquarters of EmblemHealth, and Standard & Poor’s, a corporate rating agency. The west stretch of Water Street also houses several other remarkable buildings that provide commercial office space.
