About Union Square

Union Square is a historic intersection in Manhattan in New York City. The name ‘Union Square’ celebrates neither the Federal union of the United States nor labor unions but rather denotes that "here was the union of the two principal thoroughfares of the island". Union Square Park is under the aegis of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Union Square is known for its impressive statue of U.S. President George Washington. It was the first public sculpture erected in New York City since the equestrian statue of George III in 1770. Union Square Park provides professionals and locals with a large green space in which to relax and unwind. There are many other amenities in the vicinity, including restaurants, bars, libraries, museums, banks and convenience stores.
