South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located where Fulton Street meets the East River, adjacent to the Financial District. South Street Seaport features some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan. This includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th century commercial buildings in the city. There are renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, and the former Fulton Fish Market. The area offers modern tourist malls providing food, shopping and nightlife, with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. At the entrance to the Seaport is the Titanic Memorial lighthouse. The Seaport is one of New York’s most vibrant neighborhoods; and the premier open air, waterfront venue in Lower Manhattan.
To the south of the seaport, South Street is the location of a number of office buildings, including 55 Water Street (a 53 story skyscraper), and the New York City Police Museum. South Street Seaport has for long time been a major part of the commercial fishing industry in New York. The area offers a great variety of office space to rent in either refurbished 19th century buildings or modern skyscrapers.
