Area Information

Midtown is located in the borough of Manhattan and is composed of the area south of 59th Street, between the Hudson River and East River. The area is New York’s largest commercial district and contains iconic structures such as the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Times Square, Madison Square Garden, Broadway, Fifth Avenue and Rockefeller Center. New York’s largest and tallest skyscrapers, hotels and apartments towers are found in Midtown.

Business Information

As the city’s largest commercial district, many large corporate organizations lease or own office space inside the district. Midtown supports headquarters for Barnes & Noble, Bloomberg LP, Hess Corporation, The New York Times Company, Time Warner, Thomson Reuters, NBC Universal, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase and Viacom. With so many large corporate businesses calling Midtown home it has developed it into a burgeoning financial district; second only to Manhattan’s Financial District in terms of economic importance to the US. With the iconic Times Square as its centerpiece, Midtown also attracts a lot of leisure and tourism businesses to the area. Stores such as Louis Vuitton, Lord & Taylor, F.A.O Schwartz, Tiffany & Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue provide countless shopping opportunities for visitors and residents alike.

Entertainment And Dining Out

When it comes to dining options, Midtown spans the spectrum from high-societal dining experiences to humble, family-owned delicatessens. The area is home to the nationally acclaimed Carnegie Deli that sells deli sandwiches and traditional Jewish meals such as matzah ball soup and smoked salmon. Steak lovers can visit the Waldorf-Astoria’s restaurant, The Bull & Bear, to sample some of the finest cuts of beef that the city offers. Midtown is also home to exquisite Japanese restaurants with West Side Sushi, Little Yokohama and Sushi Yasuda being established local favorites.

Transport Information

Midtown is one of the liveliest areas in New York City. While taxis are available in abundance, extra travel time should be allocated to account for road congestion in the area. The minimum metered fare is $2.50, which increases by 50 cents every fifth of a mile. The MTA provides subway and bus access to and from Midtown with stations located at 59th Street, 72nd Street and 7th Avenue. It is also home to the famous Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, which is the largest train station in the world, when calculated by number of platforms. Midtown is located nine miles west of LaGuardia International Airport and 18 miles northwest of John F. Kennedy International Airport, providing regional and international flights to Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Caribbean isles.
