Southwark Area Guide

Like much of the capital, Southwark is a place of real diversity when it comes to cultural offerings and the range of property available. The area has come a long way in the last decade, now boasting developments such as the Shard and apartments on the river.

Many business owners are beginning to look to Southwark as an affordable and lucrative way of growing their business and capitalising on opportunities in South London. As such, demand for office space in Southwark has continued to soar in recent years.

Connected to the City of London by bridges across the River Thames, Southwark is at the heart of the many bustling activities London has to offer. An authentic and vibrant London feel can be felt through the buzz of Waterloo, making it hugely popular amongst tourists and residents alike. Tower Bridge, Southwark Bridge, the Millennium Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge and London Bridge all connect the City of London to the borough of Southwark. As for picture-postcard views, The Shard looks out across many pubs and galleries gathered along the Thames as well as the famous Borough Market.

Setting up your Business Here

London Bridge is home to major office developments, including the headquarters of accountancy and law firms drawn to its central location just across the river from Bank. The area is also very popular with start-ups and artistic individuals due to its affordable rental prices and close proximity to the city centre.

Southwark has become a hotspot of tourist activity in recent years due to the top attractions and amenities on offer, making it a truly vibrant area to grow your commercial empire. Serviced offices in Southwark come in a variety of forms, from the most affordable to the truly grand.

Culture and Entertainment

Southwark occupies a place both in the past and present of London’s influential arts and entertainment industry. The area is the proud home of one of London’s first theatres, The Globe, a historic venue where William Shakespeare’s first plays were both written and performed.

Moving into the 21st century, the rebuilt Globe is still one of the most well-known theatres in London. The Tate Modern, one of the world’s most popular art galleries, is also located within the area. This museum has been hugely popular since its opening in 2000, currently bringing in over 5 million visitors each year.

Eating Out

With Southwark being such a bustling location filled with cultural hotspots and tourist attractions, it will come as no surprise that there are many options for those who love eating and drinking out.

Those wanting a delicious bite to eat in a trendy restaurant need look no further than O’ver, which offers Naples-style pizza and drinks that make it a perfect location for a lunchtime treat. Offering contemporary British food against an equally modern setting, Hixter Bankside was originally a metal box factory that is now a great place to subtly impress new employees and clients alike.
