Old Street Area Guide

Old Street is located towards the north-east region of Central London in the borough of Islington. The area is widely known for being part of the Shoreditch Triangle, enticing tourists, locals and businesses with its creative, edgy and innovative reputation.

Arguably the most notable feature of the area is the Old Street roundabout, perhaps better known as Silicon Roundabout or Tech City. This is due to the abundance of tech start-ups that occupy much of the office space to rent on Old Street, creating a world-renowned tech hub that is often compared to similar areas in the likes of New York and San Francisco.

Although the area is clearly forward-thinking due to its technological sophistication, Old Street (and the immediate vicinity surrounding it) has a rich history that shouldn’t be overlooked. After you've finished taking in the area’s 18th and 19th century buildings, look down and you’ll find the last remaining wood paving in the city.

Businesses operating out of the area benefit from Old Street’s established reputation, history and convenience, partly explaining the popularity of the office spaces nearby.

Setting up Your Business Here

The prominence of tech start-ups in the Old Street area make it one of the most popular places in the UK for businesses of this kind. The prospect of joining a growing network of industry-disrupting companies is a strong incentive for those seeking to make their mark in the tech sector.

For a break from the office, let your creative minds wonder while you take in Old Street’s famous street art, which includes masterpieces by the likes of Banksy. Alternatively, enjoy a coffee or post-work cocktail at one of the many quirky cafés or bars in and around the area.

Local businesses benefit from excellent transport links, which act as a lifeline for commuting colleagues, clients and customers. Boasting its own Underground and railway stations and offering close proximity to other major transport links such as Angel and Liverpool Street, it’s no wonder that businesses are opting to take advantage of the many serviced offices on Old Street.

Offices to Rent on Old Street

Whether your business is in need of an attractive co-working space or a modern, fully-serviced office, Old Street caters for it all. The Tech City hotspot wouldn’t be complete without a range of stylish office spaces to suit the most dynamic of businesses, providing every facility your business could possibly need.

From interior design that promotes productivity to on-site cafés, restaurants, breakout areas and even rooftop terraces boasting incredible views of the city, office space on Old Street is the perfect base for any growing business.

Eating Out

As part of the Shoreditch Triangle, anyone visiting or working along Old Street won’t be short of dining opportunities. Known for its extensive food offerings, the Shoreditch area houses a variety of well-known chain restaurants and independent eateries to satisfy the taste buds of even the most pickiest of eaters.

Must-visits in the area include the gastropub, Princess of Shoreditch (on Paul St), which has nurtured a loyal following and reputation. Visit them for quality modern British food served in a spacious environment.

A dining experience in the area wouldn’t be complete without visiting BOXPARK Shoreditch, which is only a short walk away from Old Street. Tempting you with its innovative street food offerings, diners can enjoy a laid-back lunch whilst taking in the unique atmosphere.

Culture and Entertainment

Aside from its street art and architecture, the area's rich artistic culture is also encompassed in the galleries and exhibitions found around Old Street.

Markets and independent vintage shops offer great shopping experiences, and you may even be able to find a one-off piece of furniture to decorate your new office space.

For an evening of networking, entertaining clients or bonding with colleagues, the local bars provide the ideal venue. The range of activities available in the area is extensive, providing the basis for a strong work-life balance.
