Area Guide Aldwych

Located within the City of Westminster, Aldwych is one of the most prominent and well-known areas of London despite only including a one-way street and the area immediately surrounding it.

Aldwych is one of the most historically significant areas of the city, as Anglo-Saxon village Lundenwic began here in the seventh century, and was one of the first examples of London being used for trading.

It remains a place of importance, with many of the city’s notable buildings based here, including the Novello Theatre and Bush House, formerly the headquarters of the BBC World Service. Aldwych underground station has been closed since 1994 but is often used for filming.

Setting up your business here

Aldwych is home to the Northbank Business Improvement District which was set up to rival the South Bank for tourism and business. This means there are plenty of amenities and entertainment options to choose from, along with a wide range of public transport options to make the area accessible for employees and clients.

Culture and Entertainment

The Novello Theatre is one of the older theatres in London, and is situated right next to the Waldorf Hotel. There are plenty of shows to choose from: a night out in a big London theatre could easily make your business stand out in the eyes of clients.

The Courtauld Gallery is great for an enlightening post-work trip, and has a range of new and classic exhibitions, making for an interesting visit every time.

Eating out

Homage is the historic Waldorf Hilton Hotel's grand dining room, which has recently undergone a makeover, creating a wonderful mix contemporary and traditional design. The original features throughout the bar offer a sense of style and grandeur. Food is modern European and combines fresh, interesting tastes with a wonderful simplicity.

The Delauney is the perfect place to enjoy a lunchtime meeting or a brunch with clients, serving up modern and classic European food in an elegant café setting.
