Beijing Financial Street is often referred to as BFS. This forty block area in Beijing has been developed for foreign and domestic financial institutions and Chinese regulatory agencies. The financial zone is located inside Beijing’s innermost second Ring Road. Beijing’s Financial Zone is a popular location for tourists and residents. Besides banking and commerce, the area offers luxury residential units, five-star hotel accommodations, a wide-range of upscale retail and cultural amenities, and a vibrant community atmosphere.
Often referred to as China’s Wall Street, the Beijing Financial zone is China’s most important financial centre. The central bank of China and all three national regulatory commissions of the central government are located in this zone. These institutions are People’s Bank of China, China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Securities Regulatory Commission, and China Insurance Regulatory Commission. Within this financial zone are over 1500 financial institutions. They include The People’s Insurance Company of China, Commercial and Industrial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Communication Bank of China, and CITIC Industrial Bank. There are also many foreign investment conglomerates such as UBS, Royal Bank of Canada, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and Bank of America. One of the unique features of the financial zone is that the buildings and office space are designed around interior courtyards, a design concept which typifies the ancient Hutong neighbourhoods surrounding the Forbidden City.
